Robot Dreams by Isaac Asimov.
Little digression: I’m afraid of robots and aliens. Yes, I know it’s stupid -we all know why Asimov is famous right?- but I can’t help it, I’m just scared!
So you may be wondering why I bought this book, I swear that there’s more than one good reason.

Piccola digressione: ho paura dei robot e degli alieni. Si, lo so è stupido -sappiamo tutti per che genere di libri è famoso Asimov, giusto?- ma non lo faccio apposta, mi fanno paura e basta!
Dunque potreste chiedervi perché cavolo l’ho preso, giuro che avevo più di una buona ragione per farlo.
1. It was 20% off. Before you start screaming something like: culture has no price! let me tell you that I agree. Really, I do. I love reading but I read really fast and spending a lot of money for a book sometimes kind of bothers me. I bought Ken Follet latest book a couple of days ago and it costed 24 euros. Knowing that I’ll finish it in no time it kills me a little inside.
2. I have to face my fears, right?
I’m really happy I decided to buy this, even if I was really scared-anxious at some points.
Robot Dreams it’s a collection of Asimov’s short stories NOT only about robots, there are several stories about Multivac, a computer that controls many many things on earth.
The stories are based in Asimov’s near future, which is our present, so reading this makes everything slightly weird.
For example, the Voter of the Year story is set in 2008 and knowing how that USA election ended makes it even a more interesting thing to read.
Every single story has a great plot, it makes you think about various subjects.
I loved the end of every story, Asimov manages to make you hold your breath in every occasion.
I liked the way is written, very simple and clear even if it’s quite aseptic in some points.
I highly recommend this even if you’re not really into robots, I think you’re going to like it.

1. C’era il 20% di sconto. So che la cultura che non ha prezzo e so che spendo soldi per cose frivole come i trucchi, davvero ne sono consapevole. Però io amo leggere e leggo molto velocemente, spendere tanto per un libro a volte mi da fastidio. Ho preso l’ultimo di Ken Follet e l’ho pagato 24 euro, l’ho quasi finito e mi viene male.
2.Devo affrontare le mie paure, giusto?
Sono molto felice di aver deciso di prenderlo alla fine, anche se in certi punti ero terrorizzata+angosciatissima.
Sogni di Robot è una collezione di racconti brevi di Asimov. Questi racconti non parlano SOLO di robot, ci sono molte storie che parlano di Multivac per esempio, un super computer che controlla molte cose sulla terra.
Le storie sono ambientate nel futuro di Asimov che è il nostro presente e, in parte, nel nostro futuro.
Questa situazione temporale rende la lettura ancora più bizzarra.
Per esempio, la storia Voter of the Year parla delle elezioni americane del 2008 e sapere come si sono concluse rende la lettura ancora più interessante.
Ogni singola storia ha una trama fantastica, pur risolvendosi -in alcuni casi- in poche pagine, ci sono innumerevoli fonti di riflessione.
Ho amato profondamente il finale di ogni singola storia, Asimov vi fa trattenere il fiato in ogni occasione.
Mi è piaciuto molto anche il modo in cui è scritto, molto semplice e chiaro anche se a tratti è quasi asettico.
Ve lo consiglio vivamente anche se non vi piacciono molto i robot, penso che potrebbe piacervi.

Comunque, devo ammetterlo: i robots e gli alieni non mi fanno paura ma leggere di loro in un libro credo che lo troverei noioso ;D

I have never read Asimov, which is so surprising to me… It sounds like you might enjoy Ray Bradbury's writing, if you like Asimov; he writes about the near-future (which is our present/ near past) but tends to focus on alien life more than robots and computers. I am not scared of robots, but I do not trust sentient robots! If we ever have sentient robots in real life, I do not know what I'd do!
I've never read anything by Bradbury but I surely will! Sentient robots terrify me! I know, I'm weird 😀
Quoto Ky, "Do androids dream of electric sheep?" è uno dei libri più belli che ho letto, ben strutturato e riflessivo. Anche Blade Runner che si è ispirato a questo romanzo è bellissimo. Beh, a me piace molto la fantascienza!!

Stavamo parlando di Asimov proprio l'altro giorno durante la lezione di Robotica, perché pare sia stato proprio lui uno dei primi a coniare la parola "robot" e, per altro, ci spiegava che spesso autori come questo o altri del genere fantascientifico hanno dato idee interessanti agli scienziati/ingegneri. Insomma, agli scrittori vengono le idee malsane e noi (mi ci butto dentro dai) proviamo a metterle in pratica!
Un giorno o l'altro voglio leggere un libro di questi però…
