Books: The Marriage Plot.

I had high expectations for this book, maybe too high. I personally love Eugenides’s work, Middlesex is one of my favorite books.
I have to say I’ve been quite disappointed.
Madeleine it’s a perfect young woman and we follow her love journey during her last year of university, when she decides to attend a semiotic course. We then follow her during her adult life.
She meets Leonard, a depressed yet über charismatic young man.
The love story gets tested with the return from Madeleine’s past of Mitchell, obsessed by  her.
The story is quite boring and predictable in my opinion, the college part bored me/ annoyed me to death. When the characters move on from college they still are, to me, nothing but teenagers with a degree.
Eugenides is a great writer. This book, while being not that good, it’s written very well.
The characters are amazingly described, even if I hate them I can say that I know them well.
If you want to read something about this author, please choose Middlesex.

La trama del matrimonio di Jeffrey.
Avevo delle aspettative molto alte per questo libro, forse troppo alte. Personalmente adoro le opere di Eugenides, Middlesex è uno dei miei libri preferiti.
Devo dire di essere rimasta un po’ delusa.
Madeleine è la perfetta giovane donna e la seguiamo nel suo viaggio alla ricerca dell’amore durante l’ultimo anno di università, quando decide di frequentare un corso di semiotica. La seguiamo poi nella sua vita adulta.
Nel corso di semiotica conosce Leonard, un giovane uomo depresso ma molto carismatico.
Questa storia d’amore viene messa alla prova con il ritorno di Mitchell, una figura del passato di Madeleine ossessionato da lei.
La storia è piuttosto noiosa e prevedibile secondo me, la parte del college mi ha annoiata/infastidita a morte. Quando i personaggi superano la fase scolastica continuano ad essere, per me, nulla di più che adolescenti con una laurea.
Eugenides è uno scrittore fantastico. Questo libro, pur non essendo un granché, è scritto molto bene.
Se volete leggere qualcosa di questo autore, per favore scegliete Middlesex.
